Holidays part I
Hi everyone,
Sooorry for the delay with this blogpost! I was on holiday for a bit more than a week that’s why I didn’t have time to write, but I experienced a lot which I can tell you now :) I’ll do 3 parts in which I’ll tell you where we’ve been and what we’ve seen. And in this post I’ll start with day 1 to 3 of my holidays.
Day 1, Sunday the 23rd October 2016
Finally my holidays started :) My best friend Melanie visited me for 10 days and we planned to go to the South of Ireland and travel a little bit around. We met each other at Heuston Station in Dublin and took the train towards Cork. For the first two nights, we booked a room via AirBnB. We wanted to choose all the other accommodations spontaneously.
Our journey started bumpy. As we arrived in Cork, we had to take a bus to our accommodation. But our bus wasn’t stated on the timetable. We asked two old ladies and they told us that they would go in the same direction, so we joined them. But when we realized, that their target was Kinsale we weren’t sure anymore that we would arrive at the right place. By the way, Kinsale is located 25 km south of Cork.
However, we found our accommodation and it was really nice. The owner was an elderly woman. She welcomed us with a cup of tea and some sweets and she told us some things about Cork and what we should do there and where we could go to have some food and what we should see and so on…
Day 2, Monday the 24th October 2016
The two old ladies we met the day before told us many nice things about Kinsale so we decided to take the bus and go there. Kinsale is a little historic port and fishing town in County Cork. It is a popular holiday resort for tourists but as it was low season the village seemed a bit dead. We walked a little bit through the small town which was really cute and the houses were rainbow-colored and we went up a hill to a church where we had a beautiful sight on the harbour. After a cup of tea in a little coffee shop we walked along the harbour and enjoyed Ireland’s beautiful wind :)
For dinner, we went back to Cork and chose an Asian restaurant. It was reeeeally tasty!
Day 3, Tuesday the 25th October 2016
Time for the next destination. We took the bus for two and a half hours and went further on to Killarney.
Killarney is a town in County Kerry, southwestern Ireland. The town is part of Killarney National Park. Its natural heritage, history and location on the Ring of Kerry make Killarney a popular tourist destination as well. When we arrived in Killarney we were looking for a hostel and we chose the Neptune’s hostel. We weren’t really satisfied with it because it was very cold in the room and many things were broken. But we still decided to stay there for three nights. At this day we had a walk through the town and through all the little souvenir shops and we bought a lot of postcards. Melanie and I love sending postcards and it has already become a ritual =) In the evening we had dinner in a Restaurant with typical Irish food and after dinner we went for a little walk to St. Mary’s Cathedral, it is a Roman Catholic cathedral. But as it was already dark we decided not to go inside because it was too creepy.
