An unforgettable experience in Bristol
I did an apprenticeship in tourism for three years. After this, I decided to take a break and go abroad to improve my English. In 2015, I did a city break to London and I immediately fell in love with this city. When I went back in 2017, I had the same feeling. That is why I decided to go to England but to discover another city this time, a little bit smaller and preferably in the South. After many advices, I decided to go to Bristol, which is great for its diversity, you can find a lot of parks – it also won a Green Capital Award in 2015. There are a lot of street art, which I really love and sometimes you can even see the artists painting. The size of Bristol is also perfect, it is not too big and not too small, you can easily walk around it. I am never bored about this city - I love to discover new neighbourhoods during my days off or visit other places in the country.
Doing such a choice may be stressful at the beginning, but after a warm welcoming of my colleagues, I immediately felt comfortable here. They let me go around Bristol to visit the main hotels and attractions, which helped me a lot. I also had the opportunity to experience unusual activities as visiting the vaults of the Clifton Suspension Bridge for example.
I think that I could gain personal and work experience during my ten months of internship. I have also found it interesting to see how they are working in another country. I could improve my English thanks to my colleagues and flatmates who were really nice to me.
Working for the tourism company was a great idea, I think that I have such a great knowledge about it now and I can still learn new things everyday thanks to the costumers.
Apart from this, I met so many nice people from all around the world. We shared a lot of experiences and I could catch some words from other languages – it was so funny. I’m sure that I will meet some of them in the future, especially the ones from Switzerland. I am really looking forward to seeing them again.
I decided to stay longer here to experience the summer in Bristol with various festivals every weekend. Now I am working as an employee in the same company until the end of August, before starting the university in Switzerland.
Now I can just say that it is the best choice I could have ever made - I don’t regret it at all and would encourage anyone else to do the same!
